On a monthly basis Impact Network conducts trainings for all the teachers. This is to constantly improve the skills of our teachers and also to give them an opportunity to give us feedback and raise any concerns they may have. In this blog post I would like to share more about our most recent Teacher Training.
The day started with registration and breakfast, and followed with opening remarks from the Regional Director, Daniel Mwanza. One of our Teacher Supervisors, Teselia Tembo, had prepared a presentation on “Classroom Control.” She discussed the complex reasons for why some children might act out and not listen to the teacher, and during the activities Teselia asked the teachers to think of possible solutions to this issue.
Our other Teacher Supervisor, Petros Banda, spoke about why some children might be afraid to read in class in front of other students. His presentation also included how one can make children enjoy reading, and was well received and opened up much discussion among the teachers. I believe our teachers enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about this topic while sharing their own experiences.
Our Program Implementation Specialist, Karly, conducted a workshop on one of our most recent programs called “Our Future,” which is a sexuality and life skills program for the upper grades. During the last term it was a pilot at Kanyelele School, and this term the team is working to implement the program at all schools for grades 5-7. The workshop focused on how best to teach this subject and how best to utilize the resources available.
