Sustainable Model
There are other organizations that build schools in Africa.
There are other organizations that use e-learning.
There are few, if any, that do both sustainably.
Impact Network is creating a sustainable and scaleable model to provide e-learning education.
Our solution has the potential to revolutionize rural education in Africa.
Rigorous evaluation will be done before partnering with governments to take the model to scale.

Community School
At the heart of the model is the community school. The model consists of 10 total schools. They are built miles from the nearest government school and instantly enroll hundreds of children who previously had no access to education. These schools:- Are owned by the community
- Support up to 240 students at a 40 to 1 student to teacher ratio
- Target largely AIDS orphans
- Charge tuitions affordable by all
e-Learning Infrastructure
Each school will be equipped with the infrastructure necessary to provide e-learning. This enables us to lower the cost of quality education by hiring more affordable local teachers who can be trained to deliver a proven curriculum. The infrastructure includes:- Solar electric panels
- A mini-projector
- A netbook loaded with the complete iSchool curriculum

Social Enterprises
To generate income and achieve sustainability, a social enterprise center is established adjacent to the school to tap into the electric infrastructure. We are now experimenting with 7 different enterprises, including:- A cell phone charging station
- A community pay phone
- Mobile banking access
- A community movie theater
- Learn more
Village Development
Upon graduation, Zambian students now move to the capital or out of the country for want of better employment. Our schools and social enterprises will server as a hub for comprehensive village development and help to catalyze a local job market. Our network of schools can be quickly leveraged by partner organizations as a means to scale up services such as microfinance and microenterprise, as well as development technologies that are rapidly coming to market.Already the schools have become community centers, used after school hours for:
- Adult literacy classes
- Adult vocational classes
- Women's groups meetings
- Student tutoring
- Workshops for the community on health, HIV awareness, TB, and malaria
- Youth soccer and netball leagues for boys and girls
- Meeting space for local NGO's
Sustainability
Our model incorporates three kinds of sustainability: financial, social, and environmental.- We will attempt to achieve 100% financial sustainability primarily through social enterprises.
- Social sustainability, the strength and reliability of the human element, is addressed by our model org chart.
- Environmentally sound construction is sourced from local materials using local builders. The carbon footprint is kept light with solar electric.
