Joel Community School details
Joel was our first community school, initially constructed by David in partnership with Chipulumutso during his time in the Peace Corps in 2003. It's success and growth inspired us to build a second classroom block in 2007 and to found the Impact Network in order to help other vulnerable communities by building more community schools.
Kanyelele Community School details
Kanyelele construction was completed in September 2010, opening its doors to more than a hundred Grade 1 students who had been previously meeting in a makeshift outdoor pavillion. The school is located 5km from Joel in Chapita village and supports 4 other nearby villages with a combined population of around 1500.
Kalowe Community School details
As word spread about Kanyelele, further regions began to request schools. Particularly villages far from government schools. Kalowe was funded with a matching $10,000 by Jesse Lipson and Brooks Bell.
Mnyaula Community School details
Chipapika was promised a school by the government for many years, but nothing materialized. Impact stepped in to build one with the support of an $8,000 grant from the Goggio Family Foundation (goggiofoundation.org).
Mkale Community School details
Msonda was also promised a school by the government and already had tens of thousands of bricks sitting idle for years. Howard and Wendy Lerman donated $10,000 to bring a school to fruition. Students are learning in a nearby church while construction completes by July 2011.
