Meet the Kalowe Students
Age 7
Cicilia Banda, Age 7
Cicilia comes from a large family with three sisters and one brother. She is a single orphan who lives with her mother, a disabled widow who suffered from a stroke. With her mother's disability, Cicilia would have been unable to manage government school fees, so the new community school provides her an opportunity to receive an education. She aims at finishing secondary levels and excelling.Age 10
Ezara Phiri, Age 10
When Ezara was young, he was involved in an accident in which a cow stepped on his leg. These accidents are common because kids like to play with cows or they are sometimes hired to look after these animals at a tender age. Some cows are so vicious that even adults have such accidents. Before Kalowe was built, the nearest school was too far for him to walk, but now Ezara is able to enjoy an education. He intends to work hard and complete schooling through at least grade 12.Age 8
Abiut Zimba, Age 8
Abiut is a double orphan from a family of four with one sister and two brothers. They live together with a very old grandmother who has little support from other family members to support the orphaned children. With this in mind, Ezara wishes to work very hard and complete grade 12 so that he can find a good job and help support his family with an income.Age 11
